How to Store Perfume

Perfume can be seen everywhere in our daily life. It can be seen either in the dressing table or in the toilet. So for perfume, how should it be preserved?

Perfumes generally are not labeled with expiration dates, but they are not designed to provide longterm use. The fragrance in perfume will start to produce chemical changes, and the fragrance will disappear. When the color of the perfume becomes darker or tastes different, it can no longer be used. Proper preservation of perfume will directly affect its “longevity”. You can prolong the shelf life of your perfume by storing it properly.

1. Choosing the Right Storage Space

Choose a spot away from direct light. If perfume is exposed to light and heat for a long time, its inner change is faster. Therefore, it should be avoided to expose to strong sunlight or high temperature environment for a long time. Perfume should be placed in a dark and cool place. In order to prevent exposure to light, after buying it, it is best to pour it into another opaque glass bottle or spray bottle, and place it in a space avoiding light.

Avoid humid areas. Humidity can really affect the quality of perfume. This is why storing bottles in the bathroom is generally a bad idea. Pick an area of your home not subject to extreme humidity in order to keep your perfume safe.

Try a closet. A closet is usually the ideal place to store perfume. A closet is away from light and generally has a consistent temperature. Try clearing a space in your closet to store your best perfumes.

2. Selecting a Storage Container

Keep your perfume in its original bottle. If you still have the storage container your perfume came in, keep the perfume in this bottle. Do not transfer it to another container, as this will expose it to air. This can cause it to lose some of its smell.

Store perfume in boxes. To best store, you should place bottles in boxes before placing them in storage. Boxes will further protect perfume from things like heat and sunlight. Before placing your perfume in a closet or on a shelf, put all the bottles in a box.

3. Preventing Damage

Make sure to keep the cap on the bottle. Never leave the cap off after using your perfume. The less exposure perfume has to open air, the better it will keep.

Avoid shaking perfume bottles. Many people shake perfume prior to use. Shaking the bottle can expose the perfume to excess air, which can be harmful. Unless there are specific instructions to shake perfume before use, avoid doing so before applying the perfume.
